Tomio Seike LIGHT ON DUST - Glynde Forge - March 5 (Mon.) – April 14 (Sat.), 2007

Tomio Seike is a Japanese photographer based in UK, who has a reputation for his style of gentle and silent prints with atmosphere as well as beautiful prints with grace. Photograph collectors in Europe and America have loved photographs of Seike since his first series of photographs "Zoe" exhibited in UK in the middle of 1980's.

Seike's new work "LIGHT ON DUST - Glynde Forge -" consists of photographs of a forge in Glynde in East Sussex, UK.
Came across Glynde Forge during a walk with his friend, where was managed in a time-honored fashion, he fell under the spell of unique atmosphere at a glance. In a dim forge, there were tools, blocks of metal, and finished parts placed in order. They were covered by dust for years and years as if they told a story about long history of the forge. When the soft light poured through the window, dust and light were softly blended, and the atmosphere drastically changed. The scenes kept by Seike with silent sense were sublimated to images of beautiful photographs full of quiet atmosphere. These fragments of forge photographed by Seike bring us feelings of time slowly passing and something vanishing with time.

The 22 toned gelatin silver prints are shown at the exhibition.

Tomio Seike
Born in 1943 in Japan. Became an independent photographer, and moved to London, UK. After returned to Japan in 1974, active mainly in the field of editorial photographs. Devoted himself to art photography since his first exhibition of "Zoe" in UK in 1985. Since 1987 lives in Tokyo and Brighton (UK), and continues to produce excellent photographs.
