Saeko Suezumi has been making visits to circuses in Europe every summer
since she saw for the firs time a show of Tower Circus at Blackpool, England,
in 1989. An Italian clown appearing in it simply charmed her and made
her to start a circus pilgrimage with her cameras.
Photography was an only means for her to approach their life. The more
photographs she took, the more friends she made among jesters, dancers
in gaily dress and boys on the tightrope.
The circus is a sort of sanctuary witching yet flamboyant and men perform
there the moment they become transcending. Outside the tent an atmosphere
sets a contrast to it with performers indulging themselves in quiet and
peaceful time before their turns.
Some 30 gelatin silver prints in 20x24 inches are on display.
