Sugiyama’s photographic interest in still life continues to his second exhibition now on at Photo Gallery International.
His lens has kept focusing on daily life objects to capture light reflecting on them and relieving their texture and life in contrast with shadow. Chairs, bicycles, plastic bottles, faucets, paper bags, and even trash on the roadside can be subjects of his art.
His deep interest continues in capturing the reflection of light coming from objects that gives graze like quality to its effect. A glass bottle placed into the sun fascinated him when he was a photo student. Recently thick layer of paint repeatedly applied, a wash stand, plastic cord, a doorknob, metal pipe, and plants are among his favorite objects that give his photographs satisfactory effect.
More than 40 black and white prints are exhibited.
