Photo Gallery International is pleased to announce a solo exhibition with Yuji Hamada from 18 August to 17 October, 2015. This exhibition is the 2nd solo show at Photo Gallery international since he has shown in 2012.
In the series C/M/Y Hamada creates unique works by layering Cyan Magenta and Yellow photographic emulation which he has peeled off of digital polaroid prints by soaking the prints in water.
He challenges the concept of composition in photography by this way, by using very thin and soft polaroid emulsion as his image making material.
C/M/Y is the most recent process Hamada has engaged in, in which he developed the unique technique of using 6 shades of Cyan Magenta and Yellow layers to create a single work.
This work strikes a strong resonance to the well known Japanese post war photographer, Yasuhiro Ishimoto, whose bold color works, very much like Hamada’s, possess a great depth, verging on the sculptural or appearing like drawings.
