Since 2026, photographer and novelist Yuki Shimizu has made repeated visits to Aomori to research sites distinctive to the region. This Open Lab presents materials collected during these research journeys, installed and displayed outdoors at ACAC.

The collection will continue to grow after September as new materials are added, while exposure to the surrounding environment will gradually alter their condition and appearance. Shimizu’s practice has often involved developing narratives through photography and writing following periods of fieldwork. This project, however, opens up a stage that precedes the completion of narrative, making visible the encounters, observations, and fragments from which stories emerge.
