Photo Gallery International presents Eikoh Hosoe’s exhibition “Eikoh Hosoe: Masterpieces: Beginning from Daguerreotype to ….” through February 28, 2007.
Eikoh Hosoe is a representative photographer of Japan, internationally known as well. Representative works from the 60’s to present includes “Man and Woman”, “Ordeal by Roses”, “Embrace”, “Kamaitachi”, “The Cosmos of Gaudi”, and “Luna Rossa” and others. His major one-person exhibition is on view at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography through January 28.

 

Among masterpieces ever produced in the long carrier of Eikoh Hosoe, he recently chose images and breathed new life into them by producing in various printing methods including daguerreotype process, papyrus digital pigment printing, platinum printing, gum printing process, Mini-graph, photogravure, collotype process, etc. 

 

Around 30 masterpieces are shown at the exhibition.

Eikoh Hosoe
Born in 1933.  Representative works from the1960’s including “Man and Woman”, “Ordeal by Roses”, “Kamaitachi”, “Embrace”, “The Cosmos of Gaudi”, and “Luna Rossa.”
Present: Professor emeritus at Tokyo Polytechnic University. Director, Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts.

and others.

 

Awards: Medal with Purple Ribbon (1998), The 150th Special Anniversary Medal of the Royal Photographic Society (2003). The Minister of Education’s Art Encouragement Prize (1970), Medaille de Vermeille de la Ville de Paris (1982), Honorary Award at Les Rencontres International d’Arles de la Photography (1983), Annual Award of the Photographic Society of Japan (1994), Lucie Award (2006), etc. 

 

One person exhibition: “Spherical Dualism of Photography: A World of Eikoh Hosoe” (Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography 2006 Dec. – 2007 Jan.), “Eikoh Hosoe: Photographs 1950-2000” (opens at the Yamagata Museum of Art in 2000 and travels several venues in Japan until 2003), “Eikoh Hosoe: META” (Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, U.S.A. 1990 and travels in the U.S. and Europe until 1999), “Photography: The World of Eikoh Hosoe” (Ikeda Museum of 20th Century Art 1988 and travels several venues in Japan) ,”The Human Figure 1960-1980″ (International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House, Rochester, U.S.A.1982), “Hosoe Eikoh Retrospective 1960-80” (Musee de art moderne de la Ville de Paris 1982), and others.  Works are in the collection of museums worldwide.
