THE SOUP GROUP (Naohiro Utagawa, Yuki Shimizu, Mayumi Hosokura) is a collective that simmers together words and sensations encountered in everyday life with photographs.

Like soup, things don’t necessarily blend into one — instead, they stay loosely connected, carrying their own frictions and dissonances.

For us, sound often comes before meaning in language, and that sound, in turn, invites new meanings.

Can photographs, too, be driven by the rhymes of imagery in the same way?

We wander through the city and our memories — sniffing, picking things up, mixing, and treading over them again.
