PGI is pleased to present Yoshinori Marui‘s new works from the series “Point-flash”.

Marui started working on his artwork when he was a university student at Tokyo University of the Arts and has been exhibiting pieces related to his current theme since 2000.
His work includes “The Map” (2003) which inquires into the anonymity of scenery and “Along the Coastline-from Cape Kyan to Mabuni” (2008) in which he sought how the meaning of a place has been brought by its history. In his third series named “Collecting Light” he pursues the beauty of photographs and light. In the current exhibition, he presents 17 color prints from his latest series “Point – Flash”.

Marui captures pictures of everyday moments, the serenity of still objects, light and shadow. His careful selection displays “beautiful moments of non-meaningful things” and is an attempt by Marui to share to the viewer that “by looking at objects or taking photographs we are able to unravel the details of the world, but at the same time, there are some things that are unconsciously disposed.”
Alongside his piece, Marui also presents writings cited from the words of the philosopher/mathematician Alfred North Whitehead, as well as writings by Marui himself about the art of photography and letters from a young philosopher Koji Yoshida, who has responded to questions addressed by the artist.
