THE PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW Presented by AIPAD 2022

PGI, Tokyo is pleased to announce its joint presentation with L. Parker Stephenson Photographs, New York for this coming AIPAD Photography Show 2022. Offering oscillating viewpoints on human experience, the two galleries will collaboratively curate a booth featuring three themed sections—environment, document, and the surreal. Including works by more than ten international artists, the selection brings together multiple generations from global modernism to the present.

Artists who are presented at AIPAD Photography Show 2022 range from modernists such as Yasuhiro Ishimoto and Kiyoji Otsuji, masters of the postwar generation including Tokuko Ushioda, and some of the most cutting-edge contemporary artists including Yuji Hamada, and young and emerging talents, such as Narumi Hiramoto. 

American born Ishimoto and the modernist Otsuji became highly influential as both photographers and teachers. Under their tutelage, younger photographers such as Ushioda, represented here by the series Ice Box (Image 1), began to veer away from documenting the social climate itself and turned their attention towards composition, form, and experimentation. Ushioda studied under both Ishimoto and Otsuji in the early 1960s.
